While working out is the key to keeping your body in an impeccable shape, it can be quite difficult to find the motivation for regular exercise. Many people struggle and eventually give up because they can’t keep themselves eager enough to visit the gym at least a few times per week.

Change The Type Of Workout You’re Doing

Most people give up on working out because they’re not enjoying it. If you find your workouts to be tedious and boring, you’ll have to switch things up.

The good news is that you have dozens of options to choose among. Resistance training at the gym isn’t the only way to build muscle and get fitter.

You can try German volume training, HIIT, swimming, pilates (yes, some of the best football players do pilates to maintain their muscles and core strength), circuit training and surfing among many others. There’s no need to spend hours at the gym if you don’t feel like it. Take your workout sessions outside and you’ll probably find them much more enjoyable.

The general rule of thumb is that if you’re not enjoying it, you’ll need to change it. You can’t force yourself to have a good time during a routine that doesn’t provide you with emotional gratification. Thus, to keep your motivation level up, you’ll simply have to look for other possibilities.

Make Your Workouts Shorter And Tougher

Nobody has the time to spend hours at the gym in an attempt to build muscles. The good news is that you don’t have to train excessively in order to get results.

A shorter workout that’s more intense will give you much better results than exercising for hours without pushing your body hard. What does it take to intensify a workout? Go for bigger weights and increase the number of repetitions.

High intensity workouts that last for 20 to 30 minutes can give you even better results than a longer session. Plus, it will be much easier to find 20 minutes in the day for a quick workout session.

It’s been proven several times that 20 minutes of exercise per day are sufficient to improve your fitness level.

One report on the topic was presented in the Journal of Physiology in 2012. Researchers found out that high intensity interval training produced similar and even superior body changes to traditional longer workouts.

The only problem with such short workouts is that you’ll really have to push it. Keeping the intensity at a very high level is the only way to transform your body in such a short period of time.

Get Your Friends Involved

Many people simply can’t maintain motivation on their own. This is why working out with friends can always deliver better results.

A little healthy bet can boost your competitiveness and keep you going even when you don’t feel like exercising. You can attempt to get a certain result faster than your friend. Set small milestones and celebrate each victory to feel good about the process.

You can also challenge each other to a contest every single time that you workout. See who can do a bigger number of repetitions or who can get to bigger weights. It should be something that the two of you will enjoy and that will help you keep on going even when exercise is the last thing on your mind.

The next logical step would be signing up for a competition. Testing your skills and your fitness against what others have managed to accomplish is a great form of motivation. A competition will make you work harder than you would if you don’t have a goal.

Make Sure You’re Getting Results

The best way to motivate yourself is to see the results of working out.

Choosing the right workouts and the right supplements will enable you to observe bodily changes within a relatively short period of time. Seeing the increase in your muscle size and the appearance of a six pack is probably the best form of motivation out there.

Break a large goal that you have in mind into several smaller steps. Come up with easy to measure outcome that will leave no doubt you’ve managed to accomplish something positive in terms of changing your physique.

Finally, know why you’re working out. The right reason is the key to your motivation. Working out to make yourself healthier and happier is a valid reason. Working out to please somebody else isn’t. In the second case, you’ll find it much more difficult to keep going. Do it for yourself, acknowledge your accomplishments and you’ll have a lot of fun along the way.
